Tsc Urges Teachers To Apply For 19943 Promotion Vacancies Before December 30 Deadline
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has called on teachers across the country to apply for 19,943 promotion vacancies before the midnight deadline on December 30, 2024. These promotions span from job group C1 to job group D4, with the initiative funded by a Sh1 billion allocation from the Treasury.
Promotion Vacancies Announced
TSC unveiled the openings on December 17, 2024, inviting teachers from primary and post-primary institutions to submit their applications online. This new round of promotions also welcomes teachers who had previously applied during Advert 1 to 4 of 2024, which ran from November 12 to 18.
The promotions will address the growing demand for school heads and deputies, with over 3,359 public schools currently lacking a headteacher or principal. TSC data reveals that 1,918 primary schools and 1,441 secondary schools are affected by this shortage.
Key Requirements for Promotion
To qualify, successful applicants must provide the following five clearance certificates required under Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution, which emphasizes leadership and integrity for public sector employees:
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
- Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
- Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
- Clearance Certificate from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- Credit Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
These documents ensure that applicants demonstrate integrity, competence, and suitability for leadership roles.

The vacancies include diverse positions such as Chief Principals, Senior Principals, Deputy Principals, Senior Masters, Head Teachers, and Senior Teachers. For instance:
- Chief Principal (Regular School): 44 vacancies
- Senior Principal (TTC): 3 vacancies
- Head Teacher (Regular School): 2,130 vacancies
- Deputy Head Teacher II (Regular Primary School): 3,653 vacancies

Challenges and Concerns
Despite the positive strides, teachers have raised concerns over the Commission lowering the acting period requirement to six months, which some fear could lead to favoritism. Additionally, the shortage of qualified personnel to head schools and the registration of new institutions continue to pose challenges.
