Deputy Headteacher Suspended for Allegedly Inciting Against School Principal
A deputy headteacher has recently received an interdiction letter from the sub-county director, who alleges that the deputy incited against the headteacher. The deputy is accused of orchestrating efforts to have the headteacher removed from the school, claiming poor management. The strained relationship between the headteacher and deputy, marked by constant disagreements, has contributed to this situation.
The deputy, who is a local community member, is purported to have played a role in instigating the removal of the headteacher, especially after the school recorded unsatisfactory results in the 2023 KCPE exams. Incidents escalated when a group of hostile individuals confronted the headteacher at the school gate, demanding his immediate departure and warning of potential violence if he returned.
Sources reveal that the conflict between the deputy and headteacher stems from disagreements over the collection of school levies from parents. The headteacher, upon arrival, took charge of levy collection from the deputy, causing discontent and initiating a series of inciteful activities against the headteacher.
The dispute further divided the school community, with parents becoming hostile during meetings. Teachers were also divided, some supporting the deputy, while others stood with the headteacher. The headteacher responded by transferring four teachers, who were perceived as the deputy’s loyalists, in an attempt to curb the escalating tension.
Accusations against the headteacher include claims of non-performance, financial mismanagement, and creating a divisive atmosphere among the staff. The opportunity to expel the headteacher arose when the school recorded a mean score of 192 in KCPE, leading to discontent among a section of parents who deemed him a rogue administrator.
The deputy headteacher, with support from KNUT, is currently contesting the interdiction letter issued by TSC, while the headteacher has been transferred to another school. TSC emphasizes that a deputy headteacher can face interdiction for various reasons, including incitement against the headteacher and insubordination.
