Election signifies a pivotal moment in primary school leadership

The recent election of Student Council leaders at Tampalal Primary School in West Pokot County marks a significant shift in leadership dynamics, empowering learners to actively participate in school management.

Traditionally, the privilege of elections and councils was reserved for secondary schools, where teacher preferences often played a role in selecting leaders. However, the recent primary school elections introduced a democratic process, bridging the gap between teachers and students.

The elected student leaders, primarily responsible for overseeing various aspects of learners’ affairs, including education, grade progression, and overall security, were chosen through a transparent and inclusive election process.

The free and fair elections saw the enthusiastic participation of all students, exercising their democratic right to vote and select leaders who represent their interests.

Head teacher Christine Lotee expressed satisfaction with the elected council leaders, viewing them as potential future leaders. Lotee believes that these young leaders exhibit qualities that may shape the governance of the country in diverse capacities.

Lawi Pkemoi assumed the role of President, while Brendan Chepkasi was elected as Deputy President, reflecting the students’ collective choice in shaping the future leadership of Tampalal Primary School.
