FEASSSA Games 2025: Nakuru City to Host East Africa’s Premier Secondary School Sports Event

Nakuru City, Kenya, has been announced as the host for the 2025 edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games. This announcement was confirmed by Kenya’s Ministry of Education through its latest circular.

The games, which bring together the best secondary school athletes from across East Africa, are scheduled to take place from August 14th to 22nd, 2025, with teams arriving on August 12th. Kenya’s contingent will undergo a week-long training camp in Nakuru from August 3rd to 11th, following the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national Term Two games, also held in Nakuru.

Kenya last hosted the FEASSSA Games in 2016 in Eldoret, and this year’s edition promises to raise the bar even higher.

Highlights from the 2024 FEASSSA Games

The 21st edition, held in Mbale, Uganda, was a resounding success. FEASSSA President Justus Mugisha, speaking during the closing ceremony, challenged Kenya to host a world-class championship.

Uganda retained the overall title, securing 38 medals (13 gold, 14 silver, 11 bronze), followed by Kenya, which improved its tally to 27 medals (11 gold, 10 silver, 6 bronze). Rwanda and Burundi also shone, with the latter clinching gold in boys’ volleyball despite returning after many years.

Top Performances by Kenya in 2024:

  • Rugby 15s and Boys’ Hockey: Kenyan teams reclaimed titles. All Saints Embu and Musingu High School secured maiden victories.
  • Girls’ Hockey: Kenya swept the podium, with St Joseph’s Girls dethroning Nyamira Girls to win gold.
  • Rugby 7s: Vihiga Boys dominated, while St Joseph’s triumphed in the inaugural girls’ rugby 7s category.
  • Volleyball: Kesogon Secondary School ended Kwanthanze Secondary School’s seven-year reign in girls’ volleyball.

Despite these achievements, Kenya missed out on football titles, as Ugandan teams retained dominance.

Kenya’s Ambitions for 2025

Kenya aims to capitalize on its home advantage to improve its performance. With enhanced facilities in Nakuru and an extended training camp for the national teams, expectations are high for the hosts to challenge Uganda’s supremacy.
