Keiyo North MP expresses support for the elimination of P1 training
Keiyo North MP, Adams Kipsanai, has commended the Presidential Working Party’s recommendation to eliminate the P1 certificate, stating that it is an outdated qualification that needs upgrading to meet current needs. Speaking at Sergoit Primary School, Kipsanai highlighted the extensive consultations conducted before reaching this decision.
Expressing his approval, Kipsanai emphasized the positive impact of abolishing the P1 certificate, noting that teachers holding diplomas would experience smoother career progression compared to the current scenario. He assured the public that the decision was the result of careful consideration and consultations.
According to Kipsanai, a diploma provides teachers with greater opportunities for career advancement compared to a P1 certificate. He urged Kenyans to embrace the move, emphasizing that the education sector, like others, is undergoing a revolution.
“Education, like other sectors, is undergoing revolution. P1 certificate is also outdated and is becoming irrelevant as far as tackling emerging issues is concerned. I hereby ask Kenyans to fully support this proposal,” added Kipsanai.
Sergoit Primary School, recognized for its impressive results in the 2023 KCPE and KPSEA exams, benefited from various projects. However, the proposal to abolish the P1 certificate has stirred mixed reactions, with some teachers’ unions opposing it, claiming it may exclude many potential candidates.
