
Mount Kenya University (MKU) has unveiled plans to introduce a Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, responding to increasing public demand for advanced expertise in the field. Speaking during the accreditation ceremony at MKU’s Thika Main Campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi emphasized the university’s goal of equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in health records management.
“Our Bachelor of Science in Health Records and Information Management, launched in 2012, has successfully trained thousands of professionals. Following this success, we are advancing to a Master’s level to ensure our graduates stay competitive in the evolving job market,” said Prof. Jaganyi.
Graduates of the program will gain hands-on experience with modern health information technology, enabling them to excel in sectors such as government institutions, NGOs, academia, and global organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO).
Accreditation and Industry Recognition
MKU’s reputation in the healthcare education sector continues to grow. The university recently received accreditation from the Health Records and Information Managers Board, reinforcing the institution’s role as a leader in health information management training.
Board Chairman Onesmus Mwaura highlighted that this accreditation aims to standardize and enhance the training of health records and information management professionals in Kenya. He reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring compliance across all institutions offering similar programs.
Global Partnerships and Career Advancement
MKU has also strengthened its international partnerships to boost job opportunities for graduates. Recently, over 80 nursing graduates secured employment abroad, thanks to collaborations with institutions in Germany and Austria.
