Ebwali and Madira Secure Vihiga County Football Championships
In the recently concluded KSSSA games at Mumboha Stadium, Ebwali and Madira emerged victorious in the Vihiga County football finals, showcasing their prowess in thrilling encounters that culminated in penalty shootouts. These matches were marked by unpredictability and intense competition, underscoring the determination of the participating teams.
Ebwali’s Victory in Boys’ Football
Ebwali secured the boys’ football title after a tense final against Chavakali High, which ended in a goalless draw and was decided by penalties. Ebwali prevailed 4-2, building on their earlier 3-0 victory over Chavakali in the group stages. Despite the defeat, Chavakali High’s coach Hillary Muleri acknowledged the competitive nature of penalty shootouts, emphasizing that such outcomes are unpredictable. Looking ahead, Muleri expressed optimism about his team’s performance, aiming for success at the national and possibly East African levels.
Ebwali’s head coach, Francis Muhambe, exuded confidence in his team’s prospects at the regional competitions. He noted the challenges faced at sub-county and county levels and expressed readiness to prepare his team for the upcoming national championships.
Madira’s Success in Girls’ Football and Rugby Sevens
In girls’ football, Madira Soccer Assassins triumphed over Ibubi in a penalty shootout after a goalless regular time, securing a 3-1 victory. Despite the loss, Ibubi’s coach, Godfrey Omondi, commended his team’s strong effort and acknowledged Madira’s formidable performance.
Madira’s success extended to rugby Sevens, where they clinched the championship. Joy Owiti was recognized as the Most Valuable Player, highlighting her exceptional contributions to the team’s victory. Madira now advances to represent the region in Bungoma, alongside teams from Kisangula, Kevehe, and Idavaga Muslim Secondary School.
