Top contenders Musingu High School and St Joseph’s Kitale are set to clash in the boy’s football semi-finals as the National Secondary School Term Two Games progress in Kisii. In Tuesday’s final group matches, Musingu narrowly defeated Koderobara 1-0 with Kevin Manani netting the decisive goal for the Scorpions, despite a brief disruption due to chaos. St Joseph’s Kitale, on the other hand, dominated Dr. Aggrey with a 6-0 victory, securing their place in the semis.
Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo expressed confidence ahead of the semi-final encounter, stating, “St Joseph’s is a good team, but we are equally good. I have been at the nationals before and I’m prepared for the game. We have set our sights on the finals.”
Highway vs. Kirangari Semi-Final
In the other semi-final, Highway Secondary School will face Central’s Kirangari at Kisii School. Highway topped their pool after a close 1-0 win over Takaba Boys from Mandera, while Kirangari and Machakos ended in a 1-1 draw. Fred Abuga, the team manager of Highway, emphasized the importance of the upcoming match, saying, “Our focus is majorly to win the game against Kirangari. We want to prepare the boys for the game because it will not be easy.”
Girls’ Football Semi-Finals
Reigning champions Butere Girls will face Kombani in the first semi-final of the girls’ football category, while Nyanza champions Nyakach will take on Butere Girls in the other semi-final.
Volleyball Showdowns
In boys’ volleyball, former champions Cheptil will compete against Nyanza’s Nyabondo Boys, while Namwela will face former champions Hospital Hill at Kisii School. Cheptil advanced to the top of their group with a commanding 3-0 win over Milalulu, and Namwela secured their spot by defeating Matiliku. Hospital Hill topped their pool with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Kiaguthi, and Nyabondo easily beat County High in straight sets.
Defending champions Kesogon will battle former champions Lugulu Girls in the girls’ volleyball semi-finals, with East Africa champions Kwanthanze facing Soweto Academy in the other match.
Basketball Semifinals
In the boys’ 3×3 basketball, defending champions Onjiko Boys advanced to the semi-finals by outclassing Sigalame 21-7. St. Joseph’s Kitale defeated Machakos Boys 21-10, while Sawagongo caused a major upset by beating Dagoretti High 21-15. Friends School Kamusinga shocked Laiser Hill with a 15-8 victory.
In the girls’ category, Raila Education Centre edged out Kaya Tiwi 11-7 in the first quarterfinal, with Nasokol Girls overpowering Mbitini 21-9. Butere triumphed over Nyakach Girls 17-13, and St Joseph’s Kitale narrowly defeated Ngiya Girls 13-11 in a thrilling match.
