Leadership Transition at the University of Nairobi

The vacancy follows the termination of Prof. Stephen Kiama’s tenure as Vice Chancellor, a decision made by the UoN Council in October 2024.

A memo issued by Council Chair Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, dated October 14, 2024, stated that Prof. Kiama’s employment at the university was terminated effective September 27, 2024, although the reasons for his removal were not disclosed to the public.

“The Council wishes to inform the university community that Prof. Stephen Gitahi Kiama’s services as an employee of the University of Nairobi were terminated effective September 27, 2024,” the memo read in part.

The PSC has invited applications from suitably qualified individuals who meet the statutory requirements and possess the necessary academic credentials, leadership experience, and vision to lead these prestigious institutions.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications in line with the specified guidelines outlined in the public notice.
