Embu Tragedy: Teacher’s Suicide Unveils Heartbreaking Battle Against Rejection and Mental Health Struggles
A young teacher in Embu County tragically took his own life on Wednesday, February 7, reportedly after facing rejection from his former girlfriend.
In a poignant note he left behind, he expressed the unbearable pain of imagining his ex-partner with someone else, leading him to the decision to end his life. The note outlined his funeral wishes, specifically stating his desire to be laid to rest on Valentine’s Day, February 14, with the words, “Just decided to rest in peace. I have tried all means but it has been in vain.”
Furthermore, he instructed his ex-girlfriend to deliver his eulogy and assigned his relatives the task of investigating whether he had children from previous relationships who should inherit his estate.
Two members of the county assembly were given the responsibility of organizing the burial ceremony, with explicit instructions to include a photo he provided as part of the proceedings. The teacher’s note also revealed his ongoing struggle with depression, noting that despite reaching out to 17 individuals for support regarding his troubled relationship, none offered the assistance or guidance he desperately sought.
He expressed his lament, saying, “I have pleaded with (the ex-girlfriend) but all has fallen on deaf ears.”
A local journalist confirmed the tragic incident by visiting the teacher’s residence where the suicide occurred.
Counselors, medical professionals, and psychologists emphasized the importance of seeking help for mental health issues, urging individuals to reach out for support. The Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, is available for assistance.
