Announcement Made for Nyanza Region School Games Pools

Kisii National School is poised to defend its title at the upcoming Nyanza Regional Secondary Schools Rugby 15s tournament set to take place in Kisumu this weekend. Head coach Lee Arstone expressed confidence in the team’s stronger lineup compared to last year, anticipating a successful defense of their crown. He emphasized the rigorous training undertaken by the players, instilling belief in their ability to retain the title.

Aggrey Nyantika, Kisii County Secondary Schools Sports Secretary, confirmed that all qualified teams are gearing up to travel to Kisumu for the Regional Competitions scheduled from March 19 to 23. The participating teams have been divided into two pools to facilitate the tournament organization.

In the Rugby 15s category, the teams have been allocated to pools A and B. Kisii School will compete against Agoro Sare, Anjeyo, and Nyabondo in pool A, while pool B comprises Onjiko of Kisumu, St. Mary Yala from Siaya, Cardinal Otunga Mosocho, and St. Paul’s Gekano.

For girls’ basketball, pool A includes Mokomoni of Nyamira, Asumbi from Homabay, Nyakach from Kisumu, and Tuk Jowi from Migori County. Pool B consists of Ngiya, St. Barnabas, Ototo, and St. Angela Sengera.

In boys’ basketball, pool A features Onjiko, Rapogi of Migori, Otto from Homabay, Nyansiongo from Nyamira, and Maseno from Kisumu. Pool B comprises Nyanchwa, Agoro Sare, Maseno, and Sawagongo.

The hockey girls’ teams from Nyamira, Kisumu, and Andingo schools will compete in pool A, while pool B will include Genga, Amaiko Rae, and Ngi’ya.

In girls’ handball, Nyamira, Ikonge, Gur, and Miranga are grouped in pool A, while pool B features Ulanda Asumbi, Ndonyo, and Nyakach.

The boys’ handball category will see Manyatta, Yala, and Nyamera competing in pool A, while the teams in pool B are yet to be identified due to an appeal launched by Ndonyo against the winners Cardinal Otunga Mosocho.

The Kisii County Secondary Schools Sports arbitration body, led by Kisii School Principal Fred Mogaka, has assured to address the concerns of the teams before the commencement of the games.
