In the Rift Valley school games, the competition has intensified as it enters the penultimate stage, with the defending hockey champions, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale, securing a spot in the final after a commanding 5-0 victory over Propoi Pokot West in the semi-final held at Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi on Tuesday.
Under the guidance of Coach Rosebella Orwaro, the girls showcased exceptional stick handling skills, dominating the match and affirming their status as formidable contenders. Orwaro praised her team’s performance, emphasizing that their sights are firmly set on the trophy.
Meanwhile, in the second semi-final, St. Mary’s Chasasis Nandi secured a convincing 4-0 win against Hill School UG, setting the stage for an intense final showdown against St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale to determine the Rift Valley region’s representative.
In the basketball quarterfinals, the reigning champions, St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale, asserted their dominance with a resounding 79-11 victory over Kapropita Girls of Baringo, while Ndururumo Laikipia narrowly edged out Laiser Hill Girls 35-30 in a tightly contested match at the Kapsabet Boys’ second basketball court.
Additionally, Kaplong Nandi emerged victorious over Nakuru Girls with a scoreline of 29-23 at the Kapsabet Complex in Kapsabet town. In the handball quarterfinals, St. Joseph’s Kitale defeated Nasokol 24-15, Rongenya beat Kessup 21-5, and Murundiko triumphed over Ngoisa with a commanding 43-15 win, all matches held at ASK Kapsabet Nandi.
In the boys’ handball quarterfinals, defending champions Nabunga of Trans-Nzoia secured a 37-21 victory over Murundiko, Ongata Rongai narrowly defeated Nakel 27-26, St. Mary’s Kitany overcame Ortum with a 16-14 win, and St. Leo Kakuma suffered a defeat at the hands of Saniak of Nandi with a scoreline of 34-11. These thrilling encounters took place at the Kapsabet Nandi Agricultural Showground.
