TSC mandates all teachers to pay 2,500/- for ICT curriculum training
The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has recently announced plans for an upcoming training session targeting teachers, secretariat staff, and grade eight learners. In a circular issued on 26th March 2024, the TSC revealed that the government has devised an ICT curriculum comprising short courses, which will be self-sponsored and priced at sh. 2,500/-. The training will encompass a spectrum of digital skills, ranging from Foundation to Advanced levels, including public sector-focused digital competencies.
This initiative stems from the collaboration between the Ministry of Information Communications and the Digital Economy, along with the ICT Authority, to implement the “Kenya National Digital Master Plan 2022 to 2032.” The overarching goal is to equip over 20 million citizens with essential digital skills, enhancing their ability to access and utilize government e-services effectively.
The TSC has urged all teachers, secretariat staff, and grade eight pupils to register for the program through a designated registration link provided. Dr. Nancy Macharia, the CEO of TSC, emphasized that the training will require self-sponsorship, with each participant expected to pay a fee of Ksh. 2,500/-. Upon successful completion and assessment by the government, participants will be awarded a certificate validating their acquired skills.
In a circular addressed to all teachers and secretariat staff, the TSC underscored the significance of this initiative in fostering digital literacy among citizens. The Ministry, through the ICT Authority, aims to train approximately 5 million individuals in the first phase of the program. The training consortium comprises a mix of ICT training organizations from both the public and private sectors, NGOs, and accredited training institutions.
Furthermore, the TSC has instructed Regional Directors, County Directors, and Sub-County Directors to ensure widespread dissemination of the circular among all teachers within their respective jurisdictions. This concerted effort reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing digital skills across various segments of society, contributing to a digitally empowered citizenry.
