April 2025 TSC and KNEC Trainings: JSS Retooling, KJSEA Examiners & Item Writers

TSC and KNEC Trainings Teachers Will Attend in April 2025

Teachers across Kenya are participating in several key training programs this April, organized by both the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). Here’s a breakdown of the main training activities and their details:

1) JSS Teachers Retooling Training by TSC – 21st to 25th April 2025

The TSC has scheduled a 5-day face-to-face retooling program for Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers. The training will run from Monday, 21st April to Friday, 25th April 2025.

  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Humanities
  • Technical subjects

Training Venues:

  • Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs)
  • Selected county-based venues

This retooling initiative is aimed at strengthening the delivery of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at the junior secondary level.

2) KNEC Training of KJSEA Examiners – 14th to 17th April 2025

KNEC is currently conducting training for teachers who will mark the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

  • Dates: Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 2025
  • Application: Online in March after paying a mandatory fee of Ksh. 10,500
  • Phases:
    • Online orientation course
    • Physical training (now ongoing)

This training is part of preparations for the final assessment of the first CBC cohort in junior school, scheduled for October–November 2025.

3) KNEC Item Writing Training – Application Closed on 11th April 2025

In addition to examiner training, KNEC is organizing a training program for Item Writers. These are teachers tasked with developing high-quality test items for Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) at both Basic Education and Teacher Training levels.
