Construction of Four-Story Building Planned for Teso KMTC
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi, is set to embark on the construction of a four-story building valued at KSh100 million in Teso North, to be executed in three phases.
Following a ground-breaking ceremony held outside the college at Cochlea, Teso North Member of Parliament, Oku Kaunya, disclosed that the first phase, estimated at KSh35 million, will encompass the construction of an administration block, two skills laboratories, and a lecturer room, ultimately completing the ground floor.
“This expansion initiative aims to provide additional space to accommodate more students enrolled in clinical medicine, nursing, and other courses,” stated the MP, emphasizing the project’s broader impact on the community’s livelihoods. He highlighted the planned construction of hostels, support for small-scale traders, and assistance for local hawkers.
Kaunya urged the Nairobi-based Ideal Construction Company, awarded the construction contract, to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring the project’s successful implementation.
Additionally, the legislator presented a KSh5.3 million cheque to KMTC principal Daniel Kurui and his deputy Cyrus Shivira, contributing to a KSh10 million sponsorship from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) for 120 students undertaking various courses at the college. He further disclosed the NG-CDF’s commitment to providing full scholarships to 300 students across KMTC campuses nationwide.
Meanwhile, the KMTC Teso Campus Students’ Representative Council (SRC), represented by Jesse Brian, reached out to the MP, seeking financial support for four institution and community development projects. These projects include acquiring a public address system, a projector, constructing a gazebo for students’ private studies, and establishing a shade stand for boda boda riders. These endeavors aim to enhance the institution’s facilities, promote learning environments, and foster positive relationships with the local community.
