Govt to allocate Ksh 4B for school feeding programme
Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, has announced that the government plans to double the budget for the school feeding program, increasing it from the current Ksh2 billion to Ksh4 billion. This decision aims to promote better student retention rates in schools.
During the launch of the Uasin Gishu Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) school milk program at Central Primary School, Dr. Kipsang commended Governor Jonathan Bii for implementing this initiative, which aligns with the government’s goal of ensuring universal access to education.
Dr. Kipsang emphasized that the milk program would significantly contribute to enhancing the quality of education and attracting more students to schools. He stated that the provision of milk would support the growth and development of students’ brains.
Governor Bii highlighted that the program, which involves collaboration between the education, health, and agriculture departments, would create an equitable learning environment for all students, regardless of their backgrounds. He revealed that over 40,000 school-going children from more than 500 primary schools in the county would benefit from the milk program, which will be administered twice a week.
Governor Bii also assured the public that he would address the employment concerns of ECDE teachers and ensure the provision of instructional materials to students, thereby enhancing the overall quality of education in the region.
