Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Extends Promotion Application Deadline by Seven Days

With the aim of promoting over 14,000 teachers, the TSC acknowledges the challenge of numerous schools lacking heads and deputy heads due to the reluctance of teachers to apply for these positions. Despite this, the TSC remains committed to recognizing and rewarding teachers’ efforts and performance, aligning them for career progression and succession management, and fostering motivation to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

To apply for promotions, interested teachers can visit the website tsconline.tsc.go.ke/adverts for more information.

According to the TSC, it is essential for teachers to apply for these positions as the Commission bears the responsibility of providing institutional administrators for effective management of public educational institutions.

In January, the Commission initially advertised 14,738 teacher promotions for various roles such as chief principals, principals, deputy principals, headteachers, deputy headteachers, senior masters, senior teachers, and Special Needs Education (SNE) positions. These promotions aimed to fill vacant positions and fulfill the need for institutional administrators.

However, despite the second round of advertising, there are still 1,001 vacant positions that the Commission is looking to fill. For example, out of the 7,720 deputy headteacher positions advertised for regular primary schools in the first round, feedback was received for 5,152 positions, leaving a vacancy of 2,568. In the second round, an additional 1,581 teachers applied for promotions, resulting in a variance of 987 positions.

Therefore, in response to these circumstances, the Commission has extended the application period by seven days, allowing teachers more time to submit their applications. This extension period will run from June 9 to June 15, providing an opportunity for further applications.

By offering this extended deadline, the Teachers Service Commission aims to ensure a comprehensive pool of applicants for promotions, ultimately contributing to the effective management of educational institutions.
