HELB Unveils New Education Loans for Government Workers

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has introduced a new education loan product tailored for government employees, named the Jielimishe Loan. This initiative is designed to support civil servants and other government workers in furthering their education.

Loan Details and Eligibility

The Jielimishe Loan offers government employees the opportunity to access loans of up to Ksh600,000 with an annual interest rate of 10%. Eligible applicants include those employed in pensionable positions within the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), various ministries at both county and national government levels, and employees of commissions such as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and Public Service Commission (PSC).

Additionally, staff members from the 290 parastatals in Kenya, including organizations like the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), are also eligible. The loan program extends to lecturers and support staff in universities and academic institutions as well.

Application Process

HELB has also made provisions for employees of companies to apply for the Jielimishe Loan. Interested individuals can check their company’s eligibility by emailing their company name to jielimishe@helb.co.ke. For college students seeking loans, HELB provides a convenient application method through the USSD code *642#.
