KNEC Mid-Course Assessments for Diploma in Special Needs Education (SNE) Begin This Week

KNEC Set to Conduct Mid-Course SNE Diploma Assessments
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced readiness to administer the mid-course assessment for thousands of teacher trainees pursuing a Diploma in Special Needs Education (SNE). The assessment, scheduled for Wednesday this week, is a critical milestone in the two-year program, which concludes in April 2026 with a final KNEC exam.
This evaluation will be conducted both manually and electronically, determining whether a candidate can proceed to the final year or must be referred for further improvement.

Deployment Phases:

- Phase 2 β January 2025
- Phase 3 β June 2025 (upcoming)
TSC aims to deploy 3,600 teachers, selected from both primary and secondary schools, into special institutions. These deployments are strategic, given the 5,362-teacher shortfall in special education.
Eligibility for Deployment:
- Must have a Diploma or Degree in Special Needs Education
- Must be enrolled in KNEC-approved colleges
- Must have teacher details submitted to TSC CSOs, including:
- Full Name and TSC Number
