KUCCPS Placement, Eligibility, and Application

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is a governmental organization responsible for facilitating career advising programs for students and coordinating the placement of government-sponsored students in universities and colleges. Its primary objective is to ensure equitable access to postsecondary education and training. KUCCPS, in collaboration with its stakeholders, has developed placement policies, procedures, and criteria that consider students’ preferences, merit, and affirmative action principles during the placement process.

To maximize the chances of securing their desired courses, applicants are provided with multiple opportunities to select their preferred options throughout the placement cycle. For the academic year 2022, all applicants who participated in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination and registered for courses at institutions have the opportunity to make changes to their choices. Even those who did not apply earlier in the academic year are now eligible to do so.

The minimum entry requirements for different courses are as follows:

  1. For Degree courses, the overall minimum entry requirement is a mean grade of C+.
  2. For Diploma courses, the overall minimum entry requirement is a grade of C- (minus).
  3. For Craft Certificate courses, the minimum requirement is a grade of D (plain).
  4. For Artisan Certificate courses, the minimum requirement is a grade of E.

Except for degree programs, applicants who took the KCSE examination between 2000 and 2022 but were not placed by KUCCPS can apply for admissions to TVET colleges for various courses.

Candidates seeking placement in primary teacher training institutes (TTCs) must be Form Four Leavers who took the KCSE between 2000 and 2022 and obtained a grade of C (plain) or above.

Primary TTCs are also open to non-Kenyans, individuals with foreign degrees, and Kenyans who have completed other courses but wish to pursue teacher training.

All applications must be submitted online through the KUCCPS Student Portal at students.kuccps.net. The portal provides information on application criteria, available programs, subject requirements, and more.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to apply:

  1. Visit the KUCCPS website at www.kuccps.ac.ke and click on the Student’s Portal tab.
  2. On the portal, click on the “Login” tab.
  3. Enter your KCSE Index Number, KCSE year, and password (your password can be your KCPE index number or birth certificate number) to log in.
  4. Once logged in, you can view the available courses, universities, and TVET colleges under the “Programmes” and “Institutions” tabs. Take note of the program codes or add the desired courses to your basket.
  5. To apply, click on “Application/Revision” and enter the program codes in the provided form, in order of priority. If you enter a code for a course you don’t qualify for, the system will reject it, and you’ll need to enter a code for another course. Repeat this process until all codes are accepted.
  6. After the system has accepted all your program codes, submit your application.
  7. Follow the payment procedures that appear on your screen to complete the submission.
  8. For detailed guidelines, download and read the “Student’s Guide” available for download on the portal under the “Downloads” section.
