Uganda School Adds a Feathery Twist, Mandating New Learners to Bring Live Chickens on the First Day

In a viral online sensation, a school’s unconventional request for new students has stirred controversy. The buzz centers around the Childcare Nursery and Primary School’s circular, demanding that incoming learners bring a live chicken along with other unique items, such as a bag of cement, spades, and hoes.

However, for those unwilling to carry a feathery friend, a substitute of USh 20,000 (KSh 840) is accepted. Parents are expressing their discontent, raising eyebrows at this unusual requirement.

The school’s director, Innocent Mbine, defended the decision, revealing that the live hens are integral to a poultry project. Currently housing 20 birds, the school aims to expand to 100, envisioning not just a thriving poultry venture but also generating revenue for subsidized school fees.

A tale of feathers, controversy, and future financial foresight unfolds at Childcare Nursery and Primary School.
