More Than 1 2 Million Kpsea Candidates Move On To Grade 7 Without Receiving Their Results

A total of 1,282,574 candidates who took the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams are transitioning to junior school at Grade 7. However, they will do so without knowing their results, as the KPSEA results were not released alongside the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Majority of the 1,415,315 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams have received their results. Additionally, around 2,000 learners who did not take the KCPE exams in November will join Form one, with supplementary tests planned for 9,354 who missed the KCPE.
The Education CS issued instructions for Grade seven and eight learners, including allowing Grade 7 learners to attend in their Grade 6 uniforms and utilizing existing classrooms. The KPSEA results will be released by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) through an online platform, with schools downloading and printing the certificate-form results for free. The KPSEA candidates did five subjects, lacking creative writing, a concern for teachers.
All KPSEA candidates will transition to junior secondary at Grade seven, and parents can use the results to transfer their children to other junior schools. The transcripts were marked electronically using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR). KCPE results were already released, but technical errors occurred during transmission. The KPSEA results, not used for placement but for monitoring progress, will include individual, school-specific, and national reports for educational stakeholders and interventions. The national report will be shared with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
