Rongo, Tom Mboya University Students Demand Government Explanation for Blocked Meeting with Raila

Students from Rongo University and Tom Mboya University have expressed frustration after being barred from meeting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during his visit to the county last Thursday.
Students Question Authorities Over Blocked Meeting
Speaking to Education News on Friday, the students revealed they had received prior information about Raila’s visit and eagerly planned to meet him, especially following his return from the African Union chairmanship race in Ethiopia.
“He is our elder statesman, and we felt obliged to meet him and gain wisdom from him,” said Willy Oketch, one of the students.
However, they accused Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko’s aides of treating Raila’s visit as a private affair instead of recognizing his status as a national leader.
Tom Mboya University Students Appeal to Homa Bay Governor
Students from Tom Mboya University also called on Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to acknowledge their right to interact with national leaders.
📢 “We are not engaging in politics; we simply want inclusive opportunities to connect with our leaders,” said Dickens Osere.
Raila’s Consultative Mission in Nyanza
Following his AU bid loss, Raila has embarked on a consultative mission across the Nyanza region. Governor Ochillo Ayacko confirmed that Raila met with government officials, religious leaders, ODM party representatives, and youth delegates at the Migori County Government headquarters.
During a Friday morning address at a Migori hotel, Raila expressed gratitude for the hospitality:
“Migori County has welcomed me well as I continue my consultative journey. Thank you for the warm reception, Governor Ochillo Ayacko.”
