Schools to get Capitation by Friday, CS Machogu Declares
I would like to address all the honorable Members of Parliament present and provide an update regarding the disbursement of capitation funds. As of last Friday, the Treasury was expected to deliver a total of Sh28 billion in capitation monies. However, there has been a delay in this process, and I wanted to bring this matter to your attention.
I have personally engaged with the Treasury to expedite the release of these funds, as this issue not only affects me but the entire nation. I have received confirmation that the funds will be received by the ministry by tomorrow. Once the funds are in our possession, we will promptly distribute them to all schools across the country.
I would like to inform all honorable members and the nation as a whole that the confirmation of the funds’ arrival has been received. I am optimistic that our schools will have access to the capitation funds by this coming Friday. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we assure you that by the end of the week, the funds will be available in the school accounts.
Due to the rising prices of commodities and the delay in receiving capitation funds, school administrators have expressed concerns about maintaining their operations and ensuring the continuation of education for students. Headteachers and principals have urged the government to release the school capitation funds, emphasizing that the failure to do so could lead to the closure of these educational institutions.
They have highlighted the urgent need for government assistance in this current situation, as they are currently forced to rely on credit to purchase necessary items due to a lack of cash flow.
We have received reports that schools are at risk of closure if they do not receive the capital needed to purchase food and other essential requirements. We are fully aware of this pressing issue and are working diligently to address it and ensure the continuity of education in our schools.
