Government Sets Aside Sh7.4 Billion for Infrastructure Improvement in Junior Secondary Schools
Government Allocates Sh7.4 Billion for JSS Infrastructure Enhancement
Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has announced the allocation of Sh7.4 billion to enhance educational infrastructure in junior secondary schools. This funding will be used to construct additional classrooms and laboratories, and to purchase equipment and learning materials related to science for the expected intake in junior secondary schools nationwide.
Infrastructure Development
Speaking at the 47th KESSHA National Conference at the Sheikh Zayed Hall in Mombasa, Machogu emphasized the timely nature of this initiative, given the increased student enrollments. The strategy aims to enhance the quality of science education across all learning levels in the country.
Specific Allocations
Machogu provided details of the allocation plan:
- Sh3.5 billion will be directed to primary schools to build 1,000 additional classrooms across the country.
- Sh3.9 billion, supplemented by the National Government–Constituency Development Fund, will be allocated for classroom construction at the constituency level.
These funds are part of a broader effort to improve learning facilities, accommodating the growing number of students and enhancing the overall educational environment.
Call for Collaboration
Machogu urged for close cooperation between the Cabinet Secretary and school principals to ensure the success of these initiatives. He highlighted the crucial role principals play in the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in senior schools.
“The rollout of the CBC, especially in senior schools, requires all of us to work together with you principals as primary actors. The government is committed to offering you all possible support to guarantee success,” Machogu stated.
Support from Mombasa County Government
Mombasa Governor Abdulswammad Shariff Nassir, also present at the conference, expressed his support and highlighted the substantial assistance the County Government is providing to schools. He reaffirmed the county’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education.
