The National Assembly Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Education and Governance has directed Maasai Mara University to reinstate dismissed employees and undergo a forensic audit of its financial records from 2015/2016 onwards. Co-chaired by Jack Wamboka and Naisula Lesuuda, the committee cited the dismissals as indicative of mismanagement and regulatory non-compliance contributing to institutional decline.
The MPs expressed concerns over the deteriorating state of higher learning institutions and emphasized the need for accountability and transparency from university leaders. They summoned Maasai Mara University Council members to address specific questions, warning against evasive responses.
Lesuuda underscored the committee’s commitment to holding Principals and Vice-Chancellors accountable for unresolved issues, stressing the importance of safeguarding institutions from failure due to poor governance. The committee is actively investigating financial irregularities in various universities.
