KNEC Teacher Training in Item Writing – April 2025 Application Details

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is mandated to set and uphold standards for examinations and assessments at school, post-school, and teacher education levels.
As part of its commitment to maintaining high assessment standards, KNEC is inviting applications from qualified teachers and teacher educators for training in the development of quality test items. This training supports the effective implementation of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) in Basic Education and Teacher Training institutions.
Participants who successfully complete the training may be considered for future engagement by KNEC as contracted professionals, depending on need.
Minimum Requirements for Applicants
To be eligible for the training, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- High Integrity: Demonstrate unquestionable and irreproachable integrity.
- Subject Expertise: Be a professional, expert, or subject specialist in the subject/learning area of interest.
- Active Teaching Role: Currently teaching the subject in any of the following:
- Primary School (Grades 4, 5, or 6)
- Junior School (Grades 7 or 8)
- Senior School (Teachers who will handle Grade 10 in 2026)
- Teacher Training Colleges (DTE–PP&P or DSTE)
- Stage-Based Pathway: Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational levels
- Qualifications: Possess relevant academic and professional qualifications.
- Curriculum Knowledge: Be well-versed in the curriculum designs for their teaching subject/area.
- Experience: Have a minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience.
- TSC Registration: Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- Recommendation: Must be formally recommended by their Head of Institution.
