Unlocking Brilliance: CEMASTEA’s Virtual Odyssey for Junior School Teachers This February
The Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has announced a virtual training program for junior secondary school teachers commencing in February 2024. This online training, in contrast to previous in-person sessions for junior secondary school intern teachers, will take place from February 19 to March 4, 2024.
The target audience for this training includes Junior School STEM teachers who have not previously participated in any CEMASTEA training on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), encompassing those redeployed from primary to junior school. This also includes primary school teachers newly deployed to teach in junior school. Participating teachers will receive a training allowance of sh. 8,200.
A circular has been circulated to all County Teacher Capacity Development Coordinators (CTCDC) informing them of the upcoming online training. CEMASTEA expresses gratitude for the support and cooperation received from the CTCDC during the implementation of their activities in the respective counties.
The ICT training for Junior School (JS) STEM teachers is scheduled to run from February 19 to March 4, 2024, conducted through the CEMASTEA portal and virtual platforms. Synchronous sessions are planned from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, to Friday, February 23, 2024, while asynchronous sessions will take place from Monday, February 26, to Monday, March 4, 2024.
In preparation for the training, the CTCDC is requested to submit the list of teachers to be trained, utilizing the data capture template provided in Annex II. The information should be sent in MS-Excel format for efficient processing. Special attention is required to identify teachers redeployed from primary to junior school teaching science and mathematics, who have not undergone CEMASTEA training on PCK.
