Government Disburses Ksh48 4 Billion Capitation Funds Ahead Of School Reopening

Capitation Fund Allocation for 2025 Academic Year
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the release of KSh48.4 billion in capitation funds to public primary and secondary schools ahead of their reopening tomorrow. This amount represents 50% of the total capitation for the 2025 academic year.
Breakdown of Allocated Funds
- Primary Schools: KSh4.1 billion.
- Day Secondary Schools: KSh28.9 billion.
- Day Junior Secondary Schools: KSh15.3 billion.
This timely disbursement aims to prevent the financial challenges experienced in previous years due to delays, ensuring schools operate smoothly and learners remain in class.
Further Disbursement Schedule
- Term Two: 30% of the capitation funds will be released.
- Term Three: The remaining 20% will follow.
Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba assured that the Ministry is working closely with the National Treasury to maintain timely fund releases.
Progress on Grade 9 Transition Infrastructure
The government is prioritizing infrastructure to support the seamless transition of learners into Grade 9 under the Junior Secondary framework:
- 16,000 Classrooms: Construction is 93% complete.
- Temporary Solutions: School heads have been urged to construct temporary structures where classrooms are incomplete.
- Stream Mergers: Heads are advised to merge streams to accommodate additional learners.
Textbook Distribution
As part of efforts to enhance education quality, 9.9 million textbooks have been dispatched to schools across the country. The Ministry expects the distribution process to conclude by Monday, January 6, 2025.
