Exceptional Innovations Unveiled by TVET Students

During the TVETs Trade Fair held at Karisa Maitha Ground in Kilifi, students from Taveta Technical and Vocational Centre provided detailed explanations about the functionality of their hydroelectric generators. The event, which brought together over 30 technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions in the Coast region, featured a diverse array of innovations and inventions. The showcase took place at Godoma Technical Trading Institute, highlighting works such as solar power generators, robotic machines, hydroelectric generators, wooden chairs, and automated power control, capturing the attention of the spectators.

These innovative projects, developed by students under the guidance of their tutors, spanned various sectors, including agriculture, waste management and recycling, energy and water conservation, as well as food and beauty. Education Minister for Kilifi County, Felkin Kaingu, noted the increasing inclination of youth towards vocational training colleges to acquire technical skills. Kaingu urged leaders to actively promote this shift in mindset, encouraging youth to transition from village polytechnics to vocational colleges.

Kaingu also pledged that Kilifi County would allocate funds to cover the educational expenses of youths entering TVET institutions, mirroring the support provided for secondary schools and other tertiary institutions. Peter Mwangi, the Coast Director of TVET institutions, emphasized the goal of empowering students through training and fostering market linkages to showcase their talents and secure livelihoods. Mwangi urged students to enhance their creativity and generate diverse ideas.

Furthermore, Mwangi advised the young innovators to leverage resources like the Youth Fund, which could assist them in establishing various projects. The emphasis on nurturing creativity, skills development, and financial support underscores the commitment to fostering a conducive environment for TVET students to thrive in their educational and innovative pursuits.
