Parents have been urged to provide guidance to their children regarding matters of love, to help them make informed decisions and avoid situations that could lead to tragic outcomes such as suicide.
Assistant Chief John Ondande, speaking at Kiamabundu village, expressed bewilderment at the decision of a university student to take his own life due to a relationship gone sour with his girlfriend.
The deceased, identified as Simeon Mochoka Ogachi, 23, a student in the faculty of Animal Science at Kisii University, was found hanging from the ceiling of his rental house. This tragic incident occurred after he exchanged bitter text messages with his girlfriend.
Upon receiving news of the student’s death, Assistant Chief Ondande visited the scene and discovered the lifeless body. The police were subsequently informed, and the body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
According to a neighbor named Anne Ogega, Ogachi was known for his courteous and helpful demeanor towards neighbors and colleagues. However, on the night of his death, he displayed signs of distress by damaging his laptop following the argument with his girlfriend.
Kisii County Police Commander Charles Keses confirmed the incident and stated that investigations had been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding Ogachi’s death.
