Landmark Achievement: UoN and Kenyatta University Secure a Thrilling Sh222 Million Grant for Cutting-Edge Research Initiatives!
Two local universities, the University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University, are set to reap the benefits of a generously funded international research initiative, joining forces with a thriving consortium of global universities. This collaborative effort has secured a substantial grant of Sh222.33 million (€1,292,600.00) from Horizon Europe, the European Union’s Marie Curie Staff Mobility flagship for research and innovation. By participating in this global initiative, researchers from these universities will gain valuable insights into relevant research topics and develop crucial skills through networking and training, ultimately enhancing their employability and talent management on a global scale.
Named the ‘Global Entrepreneurial Talent Management 4 (GETM4)’ project, this endeavor will connect 11 universities spanning nine countries. The project’s primary focus is to unravel the complex dynamics of individual entrepreneurs worldwide, exploring their roles, attitudes, and expectations in innovation, particularly during emergencies. Additionally, it aims to investigate the broader role of industries in predicting and adapting to disruptions, with a specific emphasis on strategic entrepreneurship within organizations.
The project also endeavors to identify collaborations and devise strategies to seamlessly integrate entrepreneurial skills and mentoring processes into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. With a four-year timeline from November 2023 to November 2026, the initiative kicked off at the Technological University Dublin (TUD), School of Computer Science (City) Ireland. The consortium includes esteemed partners such as South Korea’s Kyungpook National University, Chonnam National University, Dublin City University (Ireland), Tallinn University (Estonia), and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).
The international institutions securing this opportunity comprise Northumbria University (UK), Technological University Dublin (Ireland), University of Warsaw (Poland), Cyril and Methodius University (North Macedonia), and Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (Chile). Furthermore, five industry partners, including Fundacja Po Drugie (Poland), SAP SSC (Ireland), Macedonian Human Resource Association (Macedonia), MEDIADE (Slovenia), EKO Integrated Services (Ireland), and ESEN (Estonia), are part of the consortium.
GETM4 aims to facilitate 368 staff exchanges and a series of sandpits rotating among partner institutions. Emphasizing a “respectful impact” perspective, the project underscores the importance of transferring and translating research and innovation respectfully between the Global South and North, ensuring equitable knowledge sharing in all directions. The project will delve into in-depth research on specific issues from various stakeholder perspectives, including students/graduates, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and employers. Through international mobility and collaboration, GETM4 seeks to generate research capacity impact and provide researchers with first-hand insights and in-depth training on specific issues.
