Rift Valley Crowned Champions at 2025 KSSSA Term One National Games in Mombasa

The Rift Valley region emerged as the overall champions of the 2025 Brookside Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One National Games, held in Mombasa and concluded on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Rift Valley clinched the title with 95 points, edging out defending champions Western region, who secured second place with 88 points, while Nyanza region followed in third with 67 points.
Top Performers and Highlights
Butere Girls High School, based in Kakamega County, continued their basketball dominance by clinching their third consecutive national title, overpowering Kaya Tiwi (Coast region) with a commanding 76-53 victory in the final.
In rugby 15s, Vihiga High School claimed the national crown after a hard-fought 14-6 win over Kisii School, showcasing Western Kenya’s strength in the sport. Kisii School had earlier defeated All Saints (Eastern region) in the semi-finals to book their spot in the final.
Rift Valley’s Laiser Hill Academy snapped Western’s dominance in boys’ basketball, dethroning Dr Aggrey (Coast) in a tense championship match to bring the trophy back to Rift Valley.
In handball, Kimilili Boys retained their title after defeating Kamito Boys of Rift Valley 35-18, halting Kamito’s surprise run following their return to the national stage. In the girls’ handball finals, Moi Girls Kamusinga overcame St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale with a 24-14 victory, sealing a Western region sweep in handball.
Hockey champions also retained their crowns, with Musingu Boys defending their title against St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, while Tigoi Girls narrowly edged St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale 3-2, thanks to a match-winning strike by Salome Anyango in the 50th minute.
Focus Shifts to FEASSSA Games 2025
Following the nationals, attention now turns to the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games, which will be hosted by Kenya in August 2025.
