Twenty-five Commerce students at JKUAT have been granted scholarships by Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Corporation has presented scholarships to 25 students pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). This initiative, which is part of the College of Human Resource Development (COHRED), marks the highest number of scholarships awarded by Mitsubishi in comparison to previous years. The scholarships aim to provide financial support to students in need, allowing them to concentrate on their academic pursuits.
The selection process for the scholarships involves a rigorous screening procedure that identifies students from disadvantaged backgrounds who exhibit academic excellence. Over the past three years, more than 40 JKUAT students have benefited from this scholarship program. During the award ceremony, Prof Robert Kinyua, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at JKUAT, praised the initiative, emphasizing its transformative impact on the lives of students facing financial constraints but excelling academically.
Expressing gratitude for the support, Prof Kinyua acknowledged that these scholarships empower bright students from needy backgrounds to persevere in their studies. The Mitsubishi Corporation, represented by Antony Keru, the Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation (Nairobi), emphasized the corporation’s commitment to supporting education for academically gifted students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Keru highlighted the importance of such initiatives in uplifting the lives of future leaders and expressed hope in continuing to make a positive impact on the youth through education.
One of the scholarship recipients, Charity Roselyn, a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student, expressed her appreciation for the financial assistance. She noted that the scholarship would alleviate her financial challenges, allowing her to focus entirely on her academic pursuits without worries.
