KNEC Invites Teachers for KJSEA Grade 9 Examiner Training – April 2025

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially commenced the invitation process for teachers selected to participate in the upcoming training of examiners for the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

This follows a successful shortlisting process for teachers who applied to be KJSEA examiners and item writers.

KJSEA Examiner Training Schedule & Venues

The physical, face-to-face training will run from Monday, 14th April to Thursday, 17th April 2025. Teachers who completed the online orientation have started receiving SMS notifications with details on their specific training venues.

Confirmed Training Centres by Subject:

  • Kiswahili – Machakos Girls
  • English – Maryhill Girls
  • Business Studies (BST) – Murang’a TTC
  • Agriculture – Kilimambogo TTC
  • Mathematics – St. Francis Girls, Mang’u
  • Geography & History – Sunshine Secondary School
  • Christian Religious Education (CRE) – Machakos TTC
  • Biology, Chemistry, Physics – St. George’s Secondary School

The training had initially been scheduled for March but was pushed to April to avoid conflict with ongoing school activities.

Training Phases and Fees

The training is being conducted in two phases:

  1. Online Orientation – Completed by shortlisted applicants.
  2. Residential Physical Training – Ongoing in designated centers.

Shortlisted teachers were required to pay a training fee of Ksh. 10,500 via a KNEC-provided paybill number and confirm the payment on the KNEC examiners portal.

Challenges Faced by Teachers

Despite successful shortlisting, many teachers have reported:

  • Inability to access the online orientation materials.
  • Failure to receive training invitations despite making the payment.
  • Losses due to incomplete or unclear payment validation.

KNEC has advised affected teachers to contact the council for assistance and clarification.

KJSEA 2025 Assessment Overview

The first cohort of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in junior secondary school will sit for the KJSEA between October and November 2025.

Key assessment components include:

  • Creative Arts & Sports Project – May to July
  • Pre-Technical Studies Project – Entire month of July
  • Written & Practical Exams – From 24th October to 5th November 2025

Registration of candidates was concluded on 28th March 2025.

Who Can Apply? – Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for training, applicants must:

  • Be practicing teachers/tutors in the subject area.
  • Be registered or employed by TSC or PSC.
  • Hold a Diploma in Education or higher.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
  • Be below 50 years of age.
  • Be free from any disciplinary action.
  • Be recommended by their head of institution.
  • Tutors from TTCs and TVET institutions are encouraged to apply (especially for Home Science).

How to Apply for KJSEA Examiner Training

Steps:

  1. Visit https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke
  2. If you have a CP2 account, log in with your credentials.
  3. If you’ve forgotten your password, use the reset option with your phone number (format: 2547********).
  4. New users should create an account and follow the prompts.
  5. After logging in, complete your personal profile and save.
  6. On the dashboard, select “Apply for Training” and choose your subject.

Note: Selection is on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified applicants with all required documentation.
