Leaders commit to founding an Anglican University
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has voiced her support for the establishment of an Anglican University in Embu County, addressing guests at a recent function. Leaders in the county have collectively agreed to collaborate in mobilizing resources from both the private sector and the government to revive the long-stalled initiative of launching the Anglican University.
During discussions led by Governor Mbarire, leaders emphasized the importance of establishing the university to enhance higher academic education within the region. The collective commitment involves a concerted effort to secure financial and other necessary resources from the government and the private sector to facilitate the establishment of the Anglican University, marking a significant stride in promoting educational opportunities.
Governor Mbarire, speaking at the commissioning of Mbeere ACK Bishop Moses Mashamba as the dean of the ACK churches, affirmed the county’s capacity to host the proposed university. While Embu is currently served by the University of Embu in Manyatta Constituency, the leaders recognize the potential for growth and development that an Anglican University could bring to the region.
Despite the availability of ample land in Ishiara and Siakago areas in Mbeere, past attempts to initiate the university under the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) were hindered by resource constraints. Bishop Moses Mashamba, at the forefront of advocating for the institution, envisions the Anglican University as a source of significant educational opportunities for residents and individuals beyond the region.
Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has taken the lead in campaigning for the university, foreseeing not only educational benefits but also potential economic growth in commerce. Senator Mundigi pledged to engage with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the chief guest at the function and a personal friend, to garner additional support for the establishment of the Anglican University in Embu County.
