The grounds are prepared for the commencement of the Narok County secondary school term one games, scheduled to kick off today at Kilgoris Boys High School in Transmara West Sub-county. This marks a significant event on the 2024 school games calendar, with schools competing for honors in athletics, hockey, handball, 5×5 basketball, and 15-aside rugby in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
The participating schools earned the title of champions in their respective sub-counties during competitions held shortly before the mid-term break. The county chairman, Peter Maritim, emphasized the importance of discipline during the two-day event. He urged the students to take the tournament seriously, emphasizing that any lapse in discipline could result in automatic disqualification.
The event is not confined to Kilgoris Boys High School alone but will also extend to Kilgoris Girls, Sosio Secondary, and Poroko Friends High School. Maritim highlighted that such sporting activities provide a platform for students from diverse backgrounds to interact, fostering the sharing of experiences as a means of promoting tolerance.
Ensuring fair play, Maritim assured that the games officials and referees underwent training at the sub-county level. He emphasized that poor officiating would not be tolerated, expecting the officials to perform their duties diligently and impartially.
Jacob Barusei, the Association Secretary, disclosed that draws for hockey, 5×5 basketball, and rugby would be conducted on the day of the kick-off. In boys’ handball, Tengecha Esoit found themselves in a challenging pool with four-time champions Chebitoik Day Secondary School in Pool A. Their group stage assignments will also involve facing Rongena and Olposimoru secondary schools.
On the girls’ side, reigning champions Chebitoik Day will lead the charge in Pool A against Kilgoris Girls, Tengecha Esoit, and Olmariko. Oldonyorok Secondary School heads Pool B, competing against Suswa Girls, Ole Tipis, and Ntulele Secondary schools. The stage is set for intense competition and sportsmanship as the schools vie for supremacy in various disciplines.
