KUCCPS Provides Guidance for Applicants as Application Deadline Expires

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially closed the application portal for individuals aspiring to join public universities and colleges nationwide, marking the end of the application period. In a statement dated March 5, 2024, KUCCPS also provided guidance for applicants who encountered difficulties and were unable to submit their applications by the March 4, 2024, deadline.

The statement assured applicants that another opportunity to apply would be available during the first revision of choices. KUCCPS encouraged candidates to stay tuned for updates regarding the upcoming application window. Throughout the application process, candidates faced various challenges, including delays and system crashes, prompting Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to intervene. He reassured stakeholders that the Ministry had addressed the challenges and technical issues faced by students.

A March 1 statement from KUCCPS had announced the resolution of portal errors and urged those who had not yet submitted their course choices to do so before the March 4th deadline. Despite these efforts, some applicants expressed dissatisfaction, claiming they were still locked out of the system. Social media users raised concerns about payment verifications and delays in processing applications, with some lamenting financial losses.

Despite these challenges, KUCCPS reported a significant increase in the application success rate. In the last 24 hours leading up to March 1, 22,307 students successfully submitted their applications – the highest number in a single day since the application process began on February 7, 2024. According to KUCCPS, a total of 144,102 students who achieved a mean grade of C+ and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2023 had applied by the close of business on March 1. The placement service aims to target 173,178 (86%) of the 2022 KCSE candidates with grades C+ and above for placement this year, based on application trends.
