Nyeri Mp Duncan Maina Leads Asbestos Removal Initiative In Primary Schools

In alignment with the Ministry of Environment’s recommendations to eliminate asbestos from buildings, Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Duncan Maina, has launched an ambitious campaign to remove the hazardous material from primary schools across his constituency.
The initiative’s first milestone was achieved at Kwanderi Primary School in Nyeri Town. MP Maina facilitated the replacement of the school’s deteriorating asbestos roof with new iron sheets worth Sh 5.4 million.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the school, Maina highlighted the project’s dual focus: improving educational standards and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and the surrounding community. The funding for this endeavor was sourced from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) for Nyeri Town.
Expressing concern over the health risks associated with asbestos exposure, including its link to cancer, Maina stated, “This initiative aims to protect our environment, our children, and our community from the dangers posed by asbestos.”
He further urged parents to enroll their children in Kwanderi Primary, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing the school’s performance and infrastructure. Maina also reminded teachers of their responsibility to uphold their duties as per their performance contracts, reinforcing the importance of quality education delivery.
This proactive approach underscores the MP’s dedication to fostering a safer learning environment and raising educational standards in Nyeri Town.
