Kisii School has once again clinched the title of county Rugby 15s champions by defeating Cardinal Otunga Mosocho for the second consecutive year, this time on their home ground. In the quarter-finals, Kerongori suffered a 47-0 defeat against Cardinal Otunga Mosocho but faced a 51-3 loss to Kisii School in the finals.
Staford Nyambane and Morgan Ochiel scored impressive tries, with additional tries by Trinny Wabuche, Dickson Ongoro, and Chaz Francis, securing Kisii School’s victory over Cardinal Otunga Mosocho.
During the preliminaries, Kisii School dominated with a 47-0 win against Itiero, while Cardinal Otunga Mosocho secured victories with a 30-0 score against Kerongorori and a 47-0 score against Moi Gesusu of Masaba South. Additionally, Rioma of Kisii Central drew 5-5 with Nyabohgena of Gucha South.
The three-day secondary school sports competitions, overseen by Kisii County Quality Assurance and Standards officer Adenya Mayodi, attracted winners from the 11 sub-counties in the region. Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir commended Cardinal Otunga Chief Principal Albert Ombiro for successfully hosting the highly competitive tournament, expressing confidence in the county’s ability to host the upcoming national sports event.
Fred Mogaka, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Kisii chapter Branch Chairman, and Principal of Kisii School announced that the winning teams would proceed to the regionals scheduled to be held in Kisumu County from the 19th of this month.
