Daystar University Vice-Chancellor Laban Ayiro requests divine forgiveness for Members of Parliament criticizing the institution’s Christian foundation
Daystar University’s Vice-Chancellor, Laban Ayiro, strongly denies allegations that the institution endorses LGBTQ+ values. The claims were made by Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohammed Ali, who suggested that the university requires all admitted students to conform to its Christian beliefs, potentially infringing upon constitutional provisions regarding freedom of worship. Ayiro responded emotionally to the accusations, expressing concern about the apparent disregard for the importance of education by some individuals in the country. He emphasized his role in guiding many people to embrace a path aligned with religious principles.
Ayiro, visibly moved, addressed the accusations, stating, “In this country, we lie and call ourselves leaders. I have worked all my life for the good of this country in terms of education. I have shepherded so many children to become what God wants them to be. I have not stopped crying.” He refuted claims of denying students marks based on religion and asked for forgiveness for those spreading false information.
Furthermore, Ayiro denied the LGBTQ+ allegations, asserting that the government is pressuring him into something he has always distanced himself from. He urged leaders connecting the school to such accusations to shift their attention to improving the country’s situation instead of focusing on the innocent.
“There is an acronym I have refused to memorize but now I am being forced because I am preparing for the audit. But to stand in a national assembly and talk about Daystar vis-a-vis perpetuating that? Why don’t you fix things in this country where things are so horrible? Why are you going for the innocent?” Ayiro questioned.
