Mwariki Vocational Training Centre Officially Handed Over, Ushering in New Era of Youth Empowerment

Hope Ignites in Mwariki as New Vocational Training Centre is Handed Over to Education Department

A wave of celebration swept through Mwariki today as the newly completed Mwariki Vocational Training Centre (VTC) was officially handed over to the Department of Education, marking a transformative milestone in the region’s pursuit of youth empowerment through technical skills training.

The colorful handover ceremony drew local leaders, county officials, and enthusiastic community members, all gathered to witness the unveiling of a state-of-the-art facility set to revolutionize youth development in Nakuru County.

After facing earlier delays, the successful completion of the VTC has been hailed as a symbol of resilience and a strong commitment by the county government to invest in the future of its youth.

Representing the Governor’s Delivery Unit, Martin Gichinga reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to equipping the center with modern tools and resources. He revealed that procurement of training equipment is already underway to ensure the VTC becomes fully operational in the coming months.

“This is more than just a building — it’s a lifeline for our youth,” Gichinga said. “Governor Susan Kihika’s government is not only providing Sh30,000 in capitation per learner, but is also committed to offering holistic support for technical education and employment readiness.”

Gichinga also highlighted complementary county initiatives like the Uji Program in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, showcasing a cradle-to-career approach to learning.

John Macharia, the area Member of County Assembly (MCA), expressed heartfelt gratitude, crediting the facility’s successful delivery to strong collaboration between the local leadership and the Governor’s office.

“This project had stalled for years, but today we celebrate what unity and good leadership can achieve. This VTC will change lives in Mwariki,” said Macharia. “It will empower our young people, reduce unemployment, and uplift families.”

The mood among residents was one of optimism and renewed hope. For many, the VTC represents more than just a training center — it’s a gateway to opportunity, dignity, and self-reliance. Community members expressed high expectations for the impact the facility will have on the region’s economy and social fabric.

Key county officials present at the event included Chief Officer for Public Works Samwel Ndegwa, Nakuru Town West Sub-County Administrator Cyrus Njogu, Veronica Gachambi from the Department of Education, and Rhoda Ward Coordinator Margaret Gitau.

The Mwariki Vocational Training Centre now stands as a beacon of progress, especially for youth from informal settlements, and reinforces Nakuru County’s strategic focus on skills development, employment creation, and sustainable growth.

As the community eagerly awaits the official opening and the enrollment of the first cohort of trainees, the message is clear: a new chapter has begun for Mwariki’s youth — one built on skills, self-reliance, and opportunity.
