During the recent County school games, Mbooni Boys basketball teams proudly received their trophy, as captured in a photograph by Lydia Ngoolo. Renowned for their prowess in sports, particularly in football and handball, Mbooni Boys added to their accolades by clinching two trophies in handball and basketball.
Notably, the handball team’s success extended beyond the county level, as they advanced to the East Africa semis last year and subsequently competed in the play-offs held in Rwanda. Reflecting on the significance of sports in education, Chief Principal Dominic Maingi emphasized the importance of implementing holistic activities in schools. He stressed the need to nurture students’ talents and provide avenues for them to excel in co-curricular activities, alongside academic pursuits.
Maingi encouraged schools to adopt a comprehensive approach that supports students in exploring and developing their talents, recognizing that not all students may excel in traditional classroom settings. Emphasizing the value of talent, he underscored the importance of providing full support to students as they strive to realize their potential beyond academic achievements.
The County school games, held at St. Martin Kathonzweni Boys, showcased outstanding performances across various disciplines. Kitondo School emerged victorious in rugby and hockey, while Clay International Secondary excelled in girls’ basketball. Additionally, St. Joseph’s Kibwezi secured the hockey title, and Munyuni Secondary clinched the girls’ handball trophy. These achievements underscore the importance of sports in fostering holistic development and providing platforms for students to showcase their talents on a competitive stage.
